• Onkyo Embraces AirPlay

Today Onkyo announced it's flagship hi-fi streaming product, the T-4070 Network Tuner. This isn't just a convenient bit of kit in terms of the array of features on offer, it is also aimed squarely at the higher end of the hi-fi market, being part of Onkyo's "Reference Series".

The T-4070 will accept practically any digital bit of audio you can throw at it. Connect it to your network and it will steam MP3, AAC, WMA Losses, FLAC, WAV and Ogg Vorbis straight off any DLNA device. You could also connect a USB device with the files stored on it and play directly from there. Or if you're a subscriber to Spotify, Last.fm or AUPEO! then simply sign in and enjoy your music library.

Apple AirPlay adds the ability to stream straight from your iPhone, iPad or iTunes. Simply select the AirPlay option to send music straight to the T-4070. The system is also fully controllable from an iOS or Android app. Plus on top of all this the more traditional DAB+ and FM radio formats sit alongside the thousands of Internet radio stations available through the device.

Digital to analogue conversion is handled by a Wolfson 192 kHz/24-bit DAC as you might expect for a high quality product. Of course if you're not using the internal DAC there are also coaxial and optical digital outputs and an AES/EBU connection - something more commonly found on studio equipment.

All-in-all, if you're looking for a top quality audio streaming component which has got it all then keep your eyes on this one.
